RecycleX is a community-focused recycling platform that makes recycling easy, rewarding, accessible for everyone, and supports a greener Regina.

Recycling participation remains low due to inadequate last mile access. Transporting recyclables from households to recycling facilities can have barriers such as unreliable transportation, limited time, physical effort, and insufficient nearby drop-off options. As a result, recyclable materials are frequently disposed of as general waste rather than being properly recycled. This contributes to significant sustainability challenges, including increased greenhouse gas emissions, accelerated climate change, pollution of land, water, and air, rapid depletion of natural resources, and widespread habitat and wildlife destruction.
In general, this project aims to:
- Eliminate or substantially reduce behavioural and logistical barriers that prevent household recyclables from reaching recycling sites.
- Make participation appealing and long-lasting, give households a reliable, transparent way to turn recyclable items into a material gain (cash reward).
- Enable small recycling businesses and local collectors to source materials from households in an operationally feasible and financially viable way.
- Provide measurable tracking so stakeholders can verify that recyclables reach recycling sites and quantify environmental benefits (e.g., CO₂ emissions avoided, water saved).
Primary application domain: Transportation (last-mile logistics for recyclables pickup).
Objective: Sustainability (increase recyclable recovery, reduce landfill waste and CO₂ emissions, and support recycling through measurable incentives).
