Algae Tech

This team is examining fabrics, textiles, and paints made from or embedded with algae, photosynthetic microbes that convert carbon dioxide to oxygen and are easily grown. This is a concept that has recently been utilized in high fashion, but has yet to be translated into a functional, tangible, and accessible technology. The use of living algal textiles presents a uniquely sustainable and easy to grow material, and embedding algae into existing fabrics (clothes, scarves, etc.) allows them to convert Carbon Dioxide to Oxygen as you walk and breathe, reducing the carbon emissions produced by the textiles industry!
