Genius Hour: Living Art Lab: Create Bio‑Art with Amino Labs’ Canvas Kit - Collaborative Classroom Workshop - May 20, 2026

Workshops
Deadline: May 20, 2026

Turn curiosity into living colour.

In this virtual workshop, your class steps into the world of bio‑art using Amino Labs’ Canvas Kit Simulator—a beginner‑friendly way to “paint” with bacteria and explore biology as a creative medium. Amino Labs operates from a historic Alberta farm (yay – Canadian biotech) and is loved by classrooms everywhere, this is science that feels like art… and art that feels alive.

In just one hour, students will:

  • Use the Canvas Kit agar‑art simulator to learn how bacteria grow and interact with colour
  • Create their own digital agar‑art masterpiece—a playful introduction to biotech concepts
  • See how living organisms can become co‑creators in a brand‑new artistic form

Why It’s Awesome: This experience blends science, creativity, and design without the need for a physical lab. Perfect for sparking curiosity, introducing microbiology, or giving students a taste of emerging biotech arts.

Who It’s For: Middle school teachers and students interested in / learning about Biology & Life Science, STEAM & Design Thinking, STEM career exploration or any class that wants a fun, accessible, futuristic activity.

What Classroom need for the Hands-on Activity:

  • A classroom computer with access to both platforms (webcam/mic, optional)
  • Student devices with access to access to the Amino Labs Virtual Bioengineer: Canvas Kit simulator, https://amino.bio/pages/vbioengineer
